When Competition Culture Stops Being “Healthy”

Work Shouldn't Cost You Your Mental Health

When you’re the first in your family or community to enter these spaces, you may feel like you can’t afford to slow down. But we need to normalize rest, boundaries, and mental wellness—especially in competitive environments.


Ask yourself:

  • Am I constantly comparing my progress to others?

  • Do I feel like I can’t say no or ask for help?

  • Do I tie my value to how much I achieve?


If the answer is yes, that’s not a personal failure. It’s a sign that the system—and the pressure within it—may be working against your well-being.


You Don’t Need to Burn Out to Belong

Take a moment to reflect: Is your job bleeding into your identity? Are you measuring your worth by how “impressive” or “productive” you are?


You are already capable and qualified. You don’t need to constantly prove your value just to keep your seat. You deserve to work in ways that protect your energy and support your growth.
